If you followed our recommendations along the east side of the Exe estuary, you’ll need no persuasion to visit the west side. This is one of the southwest’s largely undiscovered gems.
The west is every bit as interesting, with waterside pubs, England’s oldest canal, and the gothic splendour of Powderham Castle and its deer park overlooking the estuary.
Try to find the lane leading to St Clement’s Church for the best glimpses of the deer park and estuary. The villages of Starcross and Cockwood make good refreshment stops with amazing views too.
